How long does a surfboard ding repair take?

Repairs usually take just a few days. Small dings can be quicker; snapped boards and major damage take longer depending on the extent. Re-finishing work (clean, speed finish, de-waxing) is usually a few days too. Call us on 027 5888 082 and we'll give you a realistic timeframe for your board.

How much does surfboard repair cost in New Zealand?

Typical pricing at our Mount Maunganui workshop:

• Ding repairs: from $60
• Medium damage / rail repairs: from $80
• Snapped board repair: quoted after inspection
• Re-finishing — strip and clean all the old wax and grime, then re-finish with spray finish and wet and dry sanding for maximum performance: from $100

What kinds of boards do you repair?

Shortboards, longboards, fish, guns, mid-lengths, softboards, SUPs (stand-up paddleboards), windsurf boards, and foil boards. If it's fibreglass, epoxy, or composite construction and it goes in the water, we can almost certainly fix it. We've been repairing every board type the Mount's surfers ride since 1974.

Do I need to book, or can I just drop my board off?

Drop-offs are welcome any day of the week — someone is usually at the workshop between 9:30am and 4:00pm, 7 days, at Unit 8, 21 MacDonald Street, Mount Maunganui. If nobody's in Unit 8, Mike in Unit 9 next door can take your board for drop-off or pickup. A quick text with a photo of the damage means we can have materials ready and quote you before you arrive.

Unit 8, 21 MacDonald Street, Mount Maunganui 3116 — just minutes from the Mount's main breaks. We're the Mount's original surf shop, operating since 1974.

Is my board worth repairing, or should I just buy a new one?

Honest answer: most dings cost far less to repair professionally than the damage costs you in the water. An unrepaired ding absorbs water, rots the foam core, and turns a $90 fix into a dead board. If the structural damage is beyond economic repair, we'll tell you straight — we've been doing this for 50 years, and a straight answer keeps surfers coming back.

Do you do same-day repairs?

Sometimes — small dings can occasionally be turned around same-day, but realistically most repairs take a few days depending on the queue and resin curing times. Text ahead with a photo and we'll tell you honestly what timeframe to expect for your board.
